Basically we got tired of paying big $$ to rent extremely expensive and not very portable gear, trudging around far flung places with it, and then having to rent a studio deck and transfer our tapes when we got back. This, we thought, is silly. We also got tired of taking other supposedly "portable" direct-to-disk solutions into places like Panamanian rain forests, Turkish deserts, jeeps on back roads and the potholes of Mexico City and Kazakhstan, and in helicopters all over the world, where they couldn't hack the heat, humidity, vibration etc., so we would end up using tape...and then have all those damn tapes to transfer...again. This, we thought, is also silly. So we invented our own solution...it's simple, effective, industrial, won't eat your production budget out of house and home, and you won't get a hernia carrying one.
